I just tried to subscribe to you on Buttondown as a paid subscriber and entered my pay information. Now I get an email saying I "successfully unsubscribed" from you though I was trying to add the subscription, but when I check my banking actions it is saying I have paid for S&S on both Substack (dated 12/31) AND Buttondown (today 1/2) at $5.00 each. What is going on and do I have to try and get refunds through my bank since the new site says I'm unsubscribed even though I've paid?? I apologize for being difficult, but I am getting rather fed-up with these sites just ripping people off. --JKA

"Your premium subscription to The Sword And the Sandwich has expired, but you can upgrade again if you'd like." when I try to go back to the Buttondown page. No n@zis yet, but they do like taking people's money and giving nothing in return except charges to bank accounts -_-

Oh dear! I just emailed the founder of BD about this! I think (hope!!!) it is just growing pains and not anything deliberate!!

Justin (the founder) is SUPER responsive, I am sure he will address these issues and improve the process.

Okay, it seems Bd has been cleared-up nicely. Is there anything to be done about the SS (heh, mean SubStack) charge on 12/31 or should I just check next month to make sure they don't charge me again for an author who no longer uses their SS (Shi**y Site)? It's "not much" to most people, but $5 = two cups of coffee at the VA hospital and I've had lengthy problems with other subscription-type services before:/ Thank you for your efforts, JKA

Glad to have found you in the midst of your departure -- I’m following new-to-me folks here even if you’re beginning elsewhere so I can read archives for more content before committing, looking forward to connecting!

(I have indefinitely paused incoming subscriptions and am slowly populating my new Ko-fi account, and following folks to theirs or to PayPal, Venmo, wherever they’ve indicated they’re collecting subs so as not to pay here)

Hi Talia, I'm on your Substack list and I did not get the email from Buttondown, can you please advise? Thanks!

Did you try checking out your spam filter?

Yes, the last thing I got was on 12/22 (the Shit Sandwich post).

I also got a "You've successfully canceled your subscription to The Sword And the Sandwich" email. Basically, the exact same experience as JKA.

Fascism is when government merges with corporations. That’s the historical, classic definition. It has nothing to do with Nazis, aka National Socialists. The US became fascist in 1913 when Wilson gave control of the economy to a private corporation, a central bank named the Federal Reserve. The central banking families who created central banking were from Italy and were not Jews. They eventually lent money to the Jewish Rothschild family to start modern central banking, but ultimately the power behind the Rothschilds are the Gnostic noble families of Europe who dominate the Bank for International Settlements and the Royal Institute for International Affairs. Know your history before you write, please.

Given the lack of comments here I seriously doubt there are thousands of paid subscribers on this Substack. Why is there the need to exaggerate? Please explain.

This was emailed to paid subscribers, including me, from Buttondown rather than Substack; for many of those subscribers, including me, it was filtered to spam. I only just now saw it because I happened to look at a Substack Notes digest email.

Why is there the need to accuse Talia of lying? Rhetorical question, no need to explain.

Heading to Buttondown now!

There are a good number of accounts on Substack controlled by intelligence agencies. I obviously can’t prove this without a doubt, but given the few number of comments on each post, it seems like a significantly lower number of subscribers. I am not a paid subscriber. The data point that there are thousands of paid subscribers here is being promoted in highly suspect news articles.

isn't that entire chain of digital services all the same? Like, google+, which disappeared, then maybe sub-stack, and now maybe this buttondown, all which, depending on how much truth they get from every user, will drive the vehicle towards silencing exactly those, or victimizing them, like CIA does? And then turn to more money, another goal, to survive, with bread and water..

Any particular reason chose Buttondown over beehiiv or ConvertKit?
