It is a balm to know that I am not alone in feeling wearied, troubled, and dismayed. I just don't get why teachers, faculty, students etc. aren't organizing weekly to combat right wing terror -- guns et. al. The election model, while necessary, is clearly not working. I can't even look at schools or children without becoming emotional. Thank you for your clear-eyed carefully crafted piece.

Exhaustion. Too many crises in too many places. Lots of people are organizing but also the same people are organizing everywhere that have been for years. In Minneapolis for instance most of the people who protect housing encampments are also the people who fight for queer rights and are also the people who marched for Black lives. We are so so so tired. We can't be everywhere at once. I work a full time job and then I spend most of my free time organizing. I wish I could feel safe to take a break but not enough new folks step up and step in.

If you are wondering why people aren't organizing, that is a great indicator that you should volunteer for some local mutual aid. I guarantee somebody else near you is thinking about some of the same things you are. Don't reinvent the wheel. ♥️

Mutual aid people are amazing. I do belong to a mutual aid group and I've taught in community colleges for over 20 years. I certainly didn't mean to say you are not active. I am thinking of parents who are not typically involved!!
